Jill Bolte Taylor’s Stroke of Insight

Imagine what it would be like to be disconnected from the chatter in your brain, to have no sense that there was a future or a past. To be euphoric and sense nirvana. And what if that experience was brought about by stroke?

Jill Bolte Taylor got a research opportunity few brain scientists would wish for: She had a massive stroke, and watched as her brain functions — motion, speech, self-awareness –- shut down one by one. It’s an astonishing story about the left and right hemispheres of our brain. Some might even call it “enlightening”.

My Psychotria Viridis Mandala

My Psychotria viridis seeds think they’re a mandala. This is a shot looking down into the glass while they soaked in distilled water. The dark background comes from my desk. The seeds just settled in this pattern. I was so taken with the image I had to grab a pic.

I have 30 seeds germinating, and it takes 6 to 16 weeks before the first sprouts appear. If they come up, no doubt, I’ll consider these some very special plants.
