Dubai ~ World’s Largest Arch Bridge

Dubai Arch Bridge

It’s one mile long and 670 feet tall. It will have 12 lanes for traffic and cost $817 million dollars. In 2012, we’ll be calling it the world’s largest arch bridge, and it’s home will be in Dubai. - Check out some larger pictures here.

I’ve written about Dubai before. (”…tax free. No income tax, no property tax. Ultimate luxury. No corporate taxes either.”) Not too long ago, Halliburton chose to relocate their home office there; however, I fear that’s just the beginning of what’s to come. With a baby boom generation quickly approaching retirement age and a relatively smaller percentage of the population working, it seems logical to me that many large companies will attempt to take the profits they’ve earned here and shelter them in Dubai. — I sure hope I’m wrong on that.

Dubai Skyline at Night

Dubai Metropolis

“Once you really commence to see things, then you really come to feel things.”

This georgeous image comes to us from photographer Mohamed Somji who is also responsible for selecting this quote from Edward Steichen. He uses it to describe his work in a general sense, but when paired with this shot of the Dubai skyline I think it takes on even more meaning.

Friends will recall that I’ve blogged about Dubai before. For various reasons I’m cautious about Dubai, but there’s no doubt it’s becoming something beautiful. To see another stunning photo by Somji, check out Palm Jumeirah.
